Engaging read for people wanting to learn about project management

This book pleasantly surprised me. Before picking it up I wouldn't have expected to be entertained and to learn about the topic at the same time. The writer doesn't take himself too seriously and laces his explanation of how project management works with humorous and shocking stories from his rich project management experiences.
I can recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn about project management in an enjoyable way. Hard core project managers may find some entertaining and recognisable stories about project successes and failures.

First of all let me say that I am a big fan of Ted Bell. I have read all of his books including his Nick of Time books. I look forward to his next book, Phantom.

My issue with this short story was it's length; I have read other short stories by well known authors, one that comes to mind is Steve Berry. These were also .99 cents and were about 6-10 chapters in length and provided a short but well rounded story. This short story, Crash Dive, was about 1 chapter and about 30 some pages. Then they follow it up with a 98 page excerpt from Phantom.

The story was a very quick fun read, but I feel as though I was duped.

I did not expect the download to be 85% content for a book that comes out later this month.

In the future, I hope the author and the publisher would be more open with what one is purchasing.

NOW YOU CAN READ THE WHOLE STORY...

This short was published as part of a promotion for the new Alex Hawke book. A LOT of people were very dissatisfied
and for that I am very sorry. It was never meant to be more than what it is, a slice of a novel that at the time had not been
written. The scene in CRASH DIVE opens the new Hawke book. Without giving away spoilers I can say that it is what I hoped
it would be, a chance for readers to see the real Alex Hawke, the man, and the WARRIOR. I want to apologize to everyone
who feels they were misled and did not receive their money's worth. It is my intention to make that up to them when they
see how the story plays out full length. Believe me, such a mistake will not be made again. And I apologize for my lack of
foreseeing how this thing might have been perceived.

David Nice is a professor of political science at Washington State University. "Public Budgeting" is a comprehensive book written to provide an understanding of the basic but essential aspects of government budget and policies as it relates to government budget management. I love this book because it is well-written, clear and concise. If I had to rename this book, it would be named "Public Budgeting for Dummies." As stated in the introduction paragraph of the first chapter "This book is an effort to make budgeting a little less baffling and mysterious" (p.2), it is a great educational tool for all colleges and universities.

This book focuses on the government's budget, process and analysis on the national level while including coverage on the state and local level. "Public Budgeting" begins with discussing the history and term "public budgeting" and its theories and strategies. The book breaks down details of each budget cycle with detailed attention on budget preparation. After reading this book, you will be ready to jump into any role of the budget process. "Chapter 4 through 8 will examine the individual phases in the process in more details." The book concludes with the last few chapters integrating public budgeting with economics as it relates to present and past economy while striving for future budget reform. There is never a dull moment, in fact, this book kept my attention from beginning to end and I was actually excited to read the whole book!

Public Budgeting made easy

The textbook titled "Public Budgeting" was written by the author David Nice and published by Wadsworth Group Publishing. The purpose of the book is to combine the focus of budget literature and public administration in a simplistic format for a wide range audience. One does not have to have a career in budgeting or finance to understand the concepts of the book. It is presented in a clear and concise format. The text is divided into 11 chapters. The topics of the text range from a brief introduction, overview of the various phases in the budget process, anayltical techniques, the adoption and implementation phases, and the complex relationships between the economy and public budgeting. "Public Budgeting" is an appropirate text for all levels especially for those being introduced to budgeting concepts.

I have read several budgeting and accounting texts and this is one of the few books that I have read in which I did not get overwhelmed or bored. The only 2 recommendations I would make is to include a glossary at the end of the book and to have a chapter summary and review questions at the end of each chapter. Including a glossary will be beneficial to those new to the budgeting field so they can have a quick reference point rather than flipping through the text. A chapter summary and review questions will reinforce the information discussed in the chpater and aid the student in studying. Despite the areas of improvement, I would still highly recommend this text for students.

Amazingly Nice

Public Budgeting by David Nice (Wadsworth, Thompson Learning:2002) is extremely informative. I was introduced to this text as a student at Southeastern University (Washington, DC). What I like most about this text is that it is amazingly thorough and unlike many of the textbooks I have come across as a student, contains abundant quality information in a textbook that is not burdensome to carry. Nice provides information about budgeting in a concise,clear manner. This text is filled with factual, objective accounts of the budget process.

In Public Budgeting, David Nice explores the stages of Public Budgeting from Budget Preparation to Budget Adoption and Budget Execution. The book even gives readers an inside look into the budget process by exploring subjects such as "how the economy affects government budgets", "public budgeting's effects on the economy", "intergovernmental aspects of public budgeting", and budget strategies. The budget strategies segment of the text was the most enjoyable to me because, as an aspiring public administrator - having read this text makes me feel more prepared to make informed decisions relating to public budgets in the career I am pursuing.

Overall, I couldn't suggest a better book to students of public budgeting. It really, really touches on all areas of budgeting and manages to be interesting, entertaining, and informative at once.

Solid College Algebra Text

I've been a longtime fan of Stewart's books. This is a solid College Algebra book, and I enjoy teaching from it. There are a few peculiarities that I don't particularly like (e.g. the change in the linear model between the first and second chapters), but overall it's a really good text. The examples draw from real-world experiences, and there are ample opportunities, particularly in the Explorations that appear at the end of each chapter, for students to write about mathematics - a skill that often is neglected in traditional textbooks. The Contexts problems at the end of the sections are also particularly challenging, and can be used to test competency with the material.
There are numerous typos in the book, which is a bit distracting. The book also is not appropriate for students with weak skills in basic algebra. Students should be relatively adept at basic algebra in order to be successful with this book. However, armed with a basic knowledge of algebra, students will be able to handle the content covered in this text. Upon completion of their studies, students should have a solid grasp not only of the symbolic manipulations presented but also of some common uses of those constructs.
