The Safest Key to Trauma Recovery

I felt a huge sense of relief just holding the book in my hands and after reading the first few pages knew that someone understood the complexities of healing from trauma! If only I had been more aware and had been taught early on in my trauma recovery to trust my own high level of intuitive feelings and common sense; had listened to my body sensations and seen those "stop" signs more clearly, I could have helped myself recover from trauma so much earlier. Instead I trusted some unhelpful "professionals" rather than trusting myself and endured more suffering and trauma as a result. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is seeking help to recover from trauma and who wants to feel in-charge and empowered in their healing journey from trauma.

Fine resource for people with traumatic experience

I have two copies of "8 Keys" in my office to lend out to patients. One patient recently commented that it was easy to locate the sections that felt immediately resonant with his experience and skip past sections that didnt seem relevant. Other people will obviously make different selections. I like the book for its clear and accessible writing (Babette Rothschild's gift), and the balance between being of comfort + support and straightforward psychoeducation. I think the book is an excellent office resource for clinicians.

he is a pretty cocky arrogant guy

i have been to one of Cook's trading seminars at his business centre in central Ohio, he is a pretty cocky arrogant guy. The first thing he says to everyone once they are seated is to thank them for losing money in the market. implicit in this is that you are giving it to him. In this long interview he repeats himself a lot and uses terms he doesn't bother to define. I have no idea what a heavy market is. I shouldn't have to guess. he predicts that if there is a 30% correction institutions will fail . peoples lives will be ruined and many will never recover, then he says he is not trying to scare anyone or create a panic or fear.
i agree a bear market is coming but it is hard to like this guy. The one really useful piece of information i got out of this was when he talked about how to recognise a bear market.
Iff the market corrects four percent or more and then doesn't bounce back at by least half of that correction then the bear market has begun.

Bunch of opinions, mainly on the surface. No actionable recommendations, not specific enough. Basically he says "I'm right, watch out, good luck, you'll need it." Not worth 50 cents, much less the "Kindle Price."

Specializing in the social and cultural history of France since the Revolution of 1789, he earned his Ph.D. at University of California at Berkeley. He is the author of The Power of Large Numbers: Population, Politics, and Gender in Nineteenth-Century France (2000).

Carol Symes is an Associate Professor of history and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the history department at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where she has won the top teaching award in the College of Liberal Arts and Science. Her main areas of study include medieval Europe, especially France and England; cultural history; history of information media and communication technologies; history of theatre. Her first book was A Common Stage: Theater and Public Life in Medieval Arras (2007).

Was on site for Western Civilizations: Volume 1 and noticed they had an eBook for rental. Rented it only to realize later that the eBook rental was for Volume 2. Rented this textbook for my Ancient and Medieval World History class. To my surprise, it delivered brand new and still in plastic wrap. The paperback cover has a nice texture to it, but still not durable enough for any college textbook. I tried very hard not to abuse the cover or binding, but it's so easy to ruin the corners when sliding it into a book bag. The content in the book wasn't horribly written, but the chapters were a lot longer than necessary for my specific class. I tried keeping up with the assigned readings but the class was way too fast paced to read everything, (the tests were based on her notes anyway). If you love history I'm sure it will be easier for you to get through the chapters than me.

Marylou does make some good points for "outsiders" who wish to understand what it's ...

A book is just that: constrained within the parameters of its own pages...so it can't and doesn't address every possible perspective and theory on the subject, and I feel, as another critical reviewer mentioned, that Marylou relies way too heavily on the subjective information obtained through her interviews of gifted adults. Marylou does make some good points for "outsiders" who wish to understand what it's like to have someone gifted in their lives, but for someone that's already indoctrinated and/or someone that's been living as a gifted person, this book has little to nothing to offer that you don't already know. I also was surprised on the chapter that discusses the "darker" aspects of the gifted that it was so heavily focused on incarcerated individuals...to me this seemed like her most sensationalized chapter: the focus on the "sociopath". I was pretty disgusted by this, in my opinion, blatant foray into a "hook the general audience topic" (cool! Sociopathy!...brilliant people that "went crazy"!); I would've much preferred a more well rounded approach: the socio-economic, the psychological, the social, and other aspects that can be severely impaired from/or concerning one's high intelligence level. To give her credit, she does touch on these some elsewhere in the book, but it would've made more sense to include them all in the "dark side" chapter. I will give her book 2 stars vs. 1 because this is such a poorly studied topic and she clearly put in the effort to research this and publish her findings and theories, but its age, and therefore inherent irrelevancy to 2016, is showing. I wish she would've created a follow up book that further studied the field, or I wish one of her colleagues would have picked up her mantle.

About the Author
Bob Neale is a teacher and writer. Throughout his career, he has exercised his imagination by making up things in the overlapping areas of religion, magic, and the arts. The results have been psychological theories about death and dying, religion as mature play, and the relations of loneliness, solitude, and companionship. An understanding of the place of magic in daily life grew out of these explorations. And the expression of it was facilitated by his creation of origami models, puzzles, and tricks that are frequently presented with social, political, and philosophical meanings. He cares about magic as imagination at play in the expression of truth through illusion. Bob is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ with degrees from Amherst College and Union Theological Seminary in New York, where he taught for twenty-four years as Professor of Psychiatry and Religion. His publications during that time include In Praise of Play (1969), The Art of Dying (1973), and Loneliness, Solitude, and Companionship: New Dimensions in Relationship (1984). Bob is an internationally exhibited and published creator of origami models. In 1964, he delighted many paperfolders and magicians with his “Bunny Bill.” In 2009, his impossible object “The Impossi-Bill Braid” gave instruction on construction in both text and DVD. Between these years, he has published Origami, Plain and Simple (1994), Folding Money Fooling (1997), Frog Tales (2000), and Which Came First? A Collection of Magical Designs (2006). Bob’s essays on magic and tricks have appeared in many journals, pamphlets, and books. He was a monthly columnist for The Linking Ring for five years. His first book for magicians, Tricks of the Imagination (1991), was followed by Magic and Meaning, co-authored with Eugene Burger (1995, now in an expanded, second edition from 2009); Life, Death and Other Card Tricks (2000); The Magic Mirror, co-authored with David Parr (2002); Celebration of Sides: The Nonsense World of Robert Neale, with the assistance of Michael Weber (2006, DVD); This Is Not A Book (2008); Magic Matters (2009); Gift Magic: Performances that Leave People with a Souvenir, with Jeff McBride, George Parker, Lawrence Hass, Eugene Burger, and Rich Bloch (2010); 444 and Three More (2011); and Nine Uneasy Pieces (2012).
