Adding something new to advertising.

This book is written by two authors who are both involved with SapientNitro and its strategic vision. Darren McColl is also listed as an author; his position with SapientNitro is to help business grow by bringing "insight to strategy, and inspiration to creativity". This book explains how this concept grew wings at an event in London titled "Storytelling in the Digital Age" in 2012. Twitter, Google, and Facebook were all prominently represented as the PR world tries to reinvent itself: A press release alone just doesn't work anymore.

The first chapter is entitled "Great storytelling alone won't save your business", and emphasizes the "fast, cheap, and good" rule. You have to pick two of the three: You can't have it all. However, if you focus on the triad of value, story, and experience, you can have all three. For example, the owner of a pizza company can tell a story about how he or she "discovered" the secret sauce recipe at age 12, or something similar. An example would be the American Girl franchise success: A publisher of educational materials came up with the idea of teaching about American History by using 3 18-inch dolls, each from a different historical period. These dolls all came with historically accurate storybooks detailing their life. By the time Mattel bought the company in 1995, there were more than 50 dolls, with stories from all over the world in almost every ethnicity. Every little girl could find a doll that would mirror her own story in some way. Now there are American Girl restaurants and salons. This concept works!

Have you ever predicted what might happen next in a story? Stories have a plot, settings, and characters, and narrative. Everybody has a story, as does every gadget that's invented. Tell the story behind the item; how it was created, what was the "special sauce" as it were. Stories sell: Ads may or may not.

Some really intriguing and provocative ideas here. Highly readable, but for the professional with a decade or more experience under his or her belt, a bit repetitive. Half as long would have been just as informative.

Die Landflucht in die vielversprechenden Metropolen l�sst die St�dte wachsen und bringt viele Probleme mit sich: Staus, Abf�lle und Umweltverschmutzung wirken sich negativ auf die Lebensqualit�t, die Gesundheit und das soziale Verhalten der Stadtbewohner aus (Europ�ische Kommission).

Dieses Problem ist keineswegs neu; schon in der ersten H�lfte des letzten Jahrhunderts hatten die Mechanisierung und die Industrialisierung zu einem sehr starken St�dtewachstum gef�hrt, das ebenfalls in chaotischen und elenden Verh�ltnissen in den Gro�st�dten endete (Eltze 2005: 12) . Es zerst�rte die Bindungen der Bewohner untereinander – aber auch die Lebenseinheit der Bewohner selbst (Reichow 1948: 3). Der Wiederaufbau nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg gab einigen Stadtplanern die Gelegenheit, die stadtplanerischen Fehler der Vergangenheit zu �berdenken und eigene, neue Konzepte zu verwirklichen. Ein Vertreter des organischen Stadtbaus ist Hans Bernhard Reichow, dessen Konzept den Menschen und seine Bed�rfnisse ins Zentrum der Stadtplanung r�ckt. Die organische Stadt wurde in Form der Sennestadt bei Bielefeld verwirklicht.

Doch inwieweit wurde Reichows Konzept umgesetzt? Ist die Sennestadt die Idealform der organischen Stadt, oder mussten Kompromisse eingegangen werden? Ist die Sennestadt ein Erfolgsmodell oder gleicht sie doch eher der gemeinen, chaotischen Stadt?

In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden – nach einer kurzen biographischen Vorstellung Reichows – die zentralen Merkmale der organischen Stadtbau-kunst herausgearbeitet. Danach folgt eine �berpr�fung der Kriterien anhand der Sennestadt. Im letzten Kapitel kl�rt sich die Frage, inwieweit die Sennestadt als Erfolgsmodell gewertet werden kann, oder ob doch der ruhige Reiz des Organischen dem zappeligen Zauber des Chaotischen unterliegt.

Victor H. Matthews (PhD, Brandeis University) is dean of the College of Humanities and Public Affairs and professor of religious studies at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, where he has taught for over twenty-five years. He is the author of numerous books, including The Old Testament: Text and Context, Studying the Ancient Israelites, and the bestselling Manners and Customs in the Bible.

Weak on Delivery

The promising title of Victor Matthew's book leads this reader to disappointment. There has been a good deal of sociological and social-world research on the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament in the last 25 years; precious little of it shows up in this book on the Israelite and Judean prophets.
After the requisite introductory materials on the definition of "prophet" and the like, the book settles in to offer primarily thematic treatment of the individual prophetic books, with occasional light excursions into history, historical geography, archaeology and the prominently-promised social world of these writers and rhetors of ancient Israel. Social world topics include very brief treatments of cognitive dissonance theory, the "egalitarian" ideal found in many prophetic books, and a somewhat more developed treatment of "enacted prophecy."

The topical treatment prevails. The Isaiah chapter, for example, offers section-headings like "Isaiah's Call," "Oracles of Warning," "Political Message," and "The Remnant." The "Oracles of Warning" section does contain a helpful discussion of the geographical and agricultural background to the famous "Song of the Vineyard" (Is a 5:1-7). This is one of the more interesting sections of the book.
Often the treatment is quite brief: Haggai and Zechariah together get four pages; Joel gets about 2.
The book seems to be intended for the lay-level or freshmen-level audience, but the title probably finds little appeal within that audience. Theologically, the book seeks a middle ground between historical-critical skepticism and conservative Protestant faith.

So much more can be said!

Matthews's book is primarily a discussion of the historical times of the biblical prophets. Unlike similar books, Matthews begins with a brief but interesting outline of historical geography, which surprisingly is not integrated into the book. After a summary of the nature of Hebrew prophets the rest of the book moves through the canon from Moses to the post-exilic period. The book includes brief highlights of key topics and a glossary of key terms highlighted in the text. Both are great ideas but neither are strong features. Often the accentuated topics are no more than a list of related verses on the same issue or a parallel from ancient Near Eastern literature while glossary definitions are so brief they appear disconnected from the text.

Less emphasis upon the social world is found than expected by the title. The book provides a discussion of the basic message and the historical situation of each prophet with some emphasis upon well-known social concerns (justice) but far less on topics like international tensions, class struggles, or economic backgrounds.

One strength of Matthews is his handling of symbolism, which comes out in his discussion of Isaiah's Song of the Vineyard, (84-88), the symbolic use of clothing (93), and the city gate, (120). But over all, the book provides neither a strong discussion of the prophets nor their social setting.

A more forgiving review

One review wrote that Matthews ignored recent sociological literature on the prophets. Maybe he did, but I'm not sure that's the point. As an experienced teacher sensitive to the needs of students what he furnishes is basic relatively noncontroversial information from which to depart if one desired to go deeper. The point is not to confuse the student (in this case, clearly the beginning student is the target) with what's trendiest in never-ending scholarly debates.

That said, Matthews is very, extremely readable and can be finished in two or three leisurely sittings. He treats the prophets in their historical chronological order, not their canonical order, which is better for the overall flow of the book. He presents the meaning and message of the prophets in historical background with appreciation for their diverse literary personalities. I have much respect for Matthews as an instructor and recommend anything he has published.

Zarking good time.

The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy is one of the most famous pieces of science fiction in the English language. The story has been adapted into almost every medium, from radio to novels to tv to movies. And it's easy to see why it's so popular. This was one of the funniest books I've ever read.

Guide is primarily about the adventures of Arthur, an ordinary average guy forced to leave earth and go on a journey through the cosmos. He is joined by Ford Prefect, a writer for the Guide, Trillian, an astrophycist from Earth, Zaphod Beeblebrox, the President of the Galaxy, and Marvin, an extremely depressed robot. Over the course of five books, they encounter a wide array of aliens, planets, and towels.

The best element of these books is the humor. Adams is a master of satire, regularing stopping the plot to give a humorous take on everything he can think of. This book is almost impossible to put down it's so funny. The only downside is that he clearly had no idea where to go with the overall plot. After the second book, plots and characters would appear and disappear out of nowhere, and the ending fizzled out. That is the only reason I couldn't give this 5 stars.

This is one of the best pieces of YA literature out there. Have fun.

Beautiful book and a great story

Beautiful book and a great story. I recommend this to anyone. I originally read these books on my Kindle and enjoyed them so much I had to look for something worth displaying on my bookshelf. This is perfect. The design is great, it is sturdy, and the print is a nice size.

Funny SciFi is Perfect

I love the books so much that I bought the audio version. (It's hard to knit and read simultaneously.) The first book is read by Stephen Fry, the other four are read by Martin Freeman. If you are familiar with the story, you'll love this. If you like comedic sci-fi, you'll love this. If you liked the books, radio plays, TV movie or movie adaptation, you'll love this.

IT SHOULD BE NOTED that the books are largely unabridged. Three books in and I have found only one alteration. In "Life, the Universe, and Everything", the conversation about the award for "The Most Gratuitous Use of the Word 'Belgium' in a Serious Screenplay" has been altered and shortened. The scene is, therefore, less humorous. I miss it.

Told me what I needed to know.

This book is written by the author and quite frankly is his way of paying himself back for his hard work. Bottom line is if this documentation came with the program, we wouldn't need to buy the book. The bulk of the useful stuff takes up one third of the book. The rest is historical crao that I cared less about. Anyway, thanks to the book, I could get PGP up and running on an MVS and NT server.
