The Rig Veda: Book 1, by Ralph T.H. Griffith

The Rigveda (Sanskrit: ऋग्वेद Rigveda, a compound of rc "praise, verse" and veda "knowledge") is an ancient Indian sacred collection of Vedic Sanskrit hymns. It is counted among the four canonical sacred texts (śruti) of Hinduism known as the Vedas. Some of its verses are still recited as Hindu prayers, at religious functions and other occasions, putting these among the world's oldest religious texts in continued use. The Rigveda contains several mythological and poetical accounts of the origin of the world, hymns praising the gods, and ancient prayers for life, prosperity, etc.

It is one of the oldest extant texts in any Indo-European language. Philological and linguistic evidence indicate that the Rigveda was composed in the north-western region of the Indian subcontinent, roughly between 1700–1100 BC (the early Vedic period).

About Author:

Ralph Thomas Hotchkin Griffith (1826-1906), scholar of indology, Son of Rev R C Griffith (Chaplain to the Marquis of Bath 1830) B.A. of Queen's College was elected to the vacant Sanskrit Scholarship on Nov 24, 1849. He translated the Vedic scriptures into English. He also produced translations of other Sanskrit literature, including a verse version of the Ramayana and the Kumara Sambhava of Kalidasa. He held the position of principal at the Benares College in India.
His translation of the Rigveda follows the text of Max Mller's six-volume Sanskrit edition. His readings generally follow the work of the great scholar Sayana who was Prime Minister at the court of the King of Vijaynagar - in what is now the District of Bellary in the Indian state of Karnataka - in the fourteenth century.

Where is the vedic?
By Philip McLaughlin
There are no vedic hymns in this. There is no text in devanagari/vedic/sanskrit characters. As with the Macdonnell reader, there is only a translation. Actually no kindle books in vedic/sanskrit appear to be the actual book which you would buy from the shelf.

As such, all of these are a waste of money at best, and a staggering example of misrepresentation, if not actual fraud.
I wish I could get my money back as a matter of principle, even though these items are all individually very cheap. But then again, what use is a burst bag?

Shame on Amazon for this shoddy effort, as only the Engligh introductions can be inspected before purchase.I feel violated, as I was never was caught like this before in all my years of book-buying.

O Agni send us a clean translation of the Vedic classics and I'll pour you a shot of soma
By James Ruggia
The Rig Veda is a book of festive prayers, but this translation is as awful as any I've ever confronted. In a childish attempt to give the book a little of that King James feel, they've plastered the verse over with phony pomp. To achieve this, they've mostly written sentences backwards and put all of the thous and these they could muster. I even encountered the word, "hasteth" as in "he hastes." Still it's the Rig Veda, a Ganges of literature, though this translation pollutes it almost as much as the real Ganges is polluted
