About the Author

Charles G. Morris received his B.A. from Yale University (1962) and his M.A. (1964) and Ph.D. (1965) in psychology from the University of Illinois. He joined the University of Michigan in 1965 where he served until his retirement in 2002.

From 1972-1977 he served as Associate Dean in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts. From 1980-1990, he served as Associate Chair of the Department of Psychology. Upon his retirement in 2002, he was appointed Emeritus Professor.

He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society.

Morris has written more than two dozen books, numerous articles, and more than thirty papers and presentations.� His books include Psychology: An Introduction, Understanding Psychology, Basic Psychology, Psychology: Concepts and Applications, Psychology: The Core and Contemporary Psychology and Effective Behavior.

His early research centered on leadership, group interaction, and group problem solving. More recently, his publications and presentations have focused on various aspects of undergraduate education, on contemporary views of leadership, and on the "Big 5" personality traits.

Albert A. Maisto, the Carnegie Foundation's U.S. Professor of the Year for 1997-1998, is the Bonnie E. Cone Distinguished Professor for Teaching at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he also serves as Associate Dean of the Honors College. Maisto earned both his Ph.D. and M.A. in Psychology from The University of Alabama.

His books include Psychology: An Introduction, Understanding Psychology, Basic Psychology, Psychology: Concepts and Applications, and Psychology: The Core.�

Earlier in his career, he served as a visiting Professor to The University of Nottingham in England, and he spent two years on the faculty of The University of Connecticut.�Throughout his career, Dr. Maisto has distinguished himself as an exemplary instructor of general psychology winning the prestigious Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence.

I needed this book for my psychology class and it was way cheaper to rent here through amazon than in my school's bookstore. Not only that, it arrived on time and in great condition and it's exactly what I needed for my class.

Good Intro To Psychology Book

Book is very technical. It is definitely a college text book and nothing like my high school psychology. With that being said it is a great book to really understand the basis of psychology and what exactly is.

Other books might be better

Updated review: Friedman's book is much better, and cleared up a lot of questions I still had after spending a couple of evenings with White's.
The manual that comes with the camera is awful. I can't understand how anyone new to the DSC-RX camera family could use their camera fully without a 3rd party guide. Sony should be ashamed for not making more information available on line (its OK that its not cost effective to supply a printed manual). This book attempts to cover everything, and then some (appendices about 3rd party cases, batteries, memory cards etc), but the presentation is a bit muddled. If you buy the kindle version, its very cost effective. Can't see many shelling out for the printed version.

Great rx for the RX!

This is a COMPLETE guide (did I already say complete?) to everything there is to know about the camera. I bought it shortly after I got my RX100 III. Everything is explained in an orderly manner and all aspects of the camera are discussed-settings, menus, uses, and so forth accompanied by numerous example photos. Assuming you bought the camera already you will not go wrong with the book. These are not Cliff Notes, but the real deal, in great detail. I read the Owner's Manual twice before I decided to buy this book. Even SONY's Help Guide on line was not especially useful to me. I found it fragmented and jumped from section to section driving me nuts. But here is all the information you will ever need about the RXIII in one place and straight up. You will be amazed how much this camera can do, and what you can do to improve your shooting. No doubt an experienced pro could probably figure out all of this and find what he/she needed in the camera. But some of us, probably most of us, need the level of guidance offered here. I read digital formats mostly, so this Kindle edition is a plus too.

I am so glad I purchased this book

I already had a A6000 book from another author, so when I purchased RX100M3, I was wondering if I needed a book for RX100M3. I am so glad I purchased this book! There is enough difference between the two cameras, and the author does a very nice job explaining each feature that you would not be able to easily figure out just by reading the manual or experiementing. The Kindle price is really a steal.

Must Buy!!

Im starting pharmacy school aug 27. I saw this book ag my local library, so I checked it out and even though this was written in 2002, it has some wonderful ideas and tips. I work as a tech in the pharm for 9.5 yrs now, I believe I and have completely forgotten how to be new person in the pharm and also dress codeduct. I cheat now and wear vans sneakers and dickies pants .

Denis considers the role of mental imagery in spatial cognition and topographical orientation; images are viewed as a form of mental representation that is similar to real-world objects. Intons-Peterson examines spatial representation in short-term, or working-memory, considering the relationship of visual-spatial processes to subjects' expectations and individual differences. Johnson-Laird approaches the issue of visual-spatial representation from a "mental models" perspective, considering the relationship of images to various cognitive events. Lots of classic sociology pieces on race and ethnicity, such as Omi & Winant's Racial Formation, Espiritu on Asian panethnicity, Waters, Merton, etc. Great collection, organized well, and thoughtful introductory essays. That said, I didn't see much difference between the 4th and 5th editions. For my needs, the only piece that was different was the addition of Michelle Anderson's piece on The New Jim Crow (a good addition). Check to see what articles you're looking for before choosing the 5th Ed - you'd be surprised to find that most of what you need is in the 4th Ed.

Incredibly dry, wordy, and boring for the most part. Since it's a collection of essays there is some variation but most of it is incredibly dull. There is not much that I have not already heard or read elsewhere and many of the authors seem like they just "enjoy the sound of their own voice," so to speak.

Handy reference work

My Art History department adopted this book as its official style-manual a few years ago, and we assign it as a textbook for our writing and methodology class. To my great dismay, however, our bookstore has had some trouble ordering it this year, and so I have encouraged my students to "cut the Gordion knot" by ordering it from Amazon. The chapters on choosing a topic and organizing an argument are, I think, useful and well-written, but the greatest value of this book is Chapters 9 and 10, which provide clear instructions for writing footnotes and bibliography. This may be a mechanical task, but it is a frustrating one for many students, because there are so many possible formats to use (MLA, Turabian, etc.) Barnet's system has the virtue of being designed specifically for research papers about art and art history, and the format he recommends is clear and logical. The book also reprints the instructions for contributors from the Art Bulletin, the most prestigious art-historical journal in this country, and so will be of value for graduate students and recent PhD's preparing their first works for publication.

I was quite surprised, but I really like this book. I was having a lot of trouble writing an art history paper and this book really helped clarify my thoughts. The book asks pointed questions that helps you focus your thoughts. I would strongly recommend this book to someone writing an art history paper.

Useful in some ways, not in others.

I recently read the 6th edition of this book in hopes that it would help me to improve my ability to understand and write about art. I found that the book is a direct, well-written primer for someone finishing high school or beginning their undergraduate degree, but for someone with a bit more experience, it turns out to be a mixed bag.
I know next to nothing about visual art. I'm the quintessential "knows what I likes, and likes what I knows" type of guy. On the other hand, I'm a graduate student in English, so I'm well-practiced in writing essays and in applying various theoretical and critical methods. I read this book in the hopes that it would help me to better understand art. That is, I wanted to learn, as Sylvia Barnet puts it, "How does art mean?" The beginning of the text does introduce some basic questions and ways to think about different kinds of art, ranging from painting, to sculpture, to architecture, to photography, to video art, etc. However, this is not meant to be an instructional book to teach someone about art. It is more like an assistant text for a freshman-level art history course. A great deal of the book is spent discussing how to organize essays, sentence structure, revising, formatting, and some instruction on critical methods. But, again, this book is not a book on writing. It's not about art, it's not about writing, so what is it? Well, like it says, it's about writing about art. A good deal of this book was useless to me, but some of it was enlightening. If you've already got some experience studying the visual arts, or some experience writing, or you just want a really indepth study on either, pick out something else. If, however, you just want an easily understood, basic primer on writing and art, this isn't a bad choice at all.
