From School Library Journal
Gr 9 Up—Audrey Rose Wadsworth spends most of her time in her uncle's laboratory, studying science and medicine through the dissection of cadavers. Although she has confided in her conceited brother regarding her studies—which are questionable at best for a young girl of her station—she has kept her time away from home mostly secret from her overprotective father. But when her work with a series of gruesome murders pulls Audrey Rose into a serious criminal investigation, she may not be able to keep her double life from her father, or from society at large, much longer. With help from her uncle's second apprentice, Thomas Cresswell, the protagonist is determined to find answers, for herself and the murdered women, even if those answers are closer to her own sheltered life than she'd like. Set in 1888, this seamless blend of history and fiction places its characters directly in the middle of the Whitechapel murders attributed to Jack the Ripper. The heroine is strong-willed and independent, and her sassy and Sherlockian protg, Cresswell, adds a satisfying romantic element to the work. While this offering is thoroughly researched, some liberties have been taken to further the plot; these are outlined in an author's note at the end of the book. Grisly period images set the mood, and strong language is included throughout. VERDICT An entertaining debut full of twists and turns, perfect for fans of historical fiction and mystery.—Maggie Mason Smith, Clemson University R. M. Cooper Library, SC

Review
Praise for Stalking Jack the Ripper:
A #1 New York Times Bestseller from its first week!

"An entertaining debut full of twists and turns, perfect for fans of historical fiction and mystery."―School Library Journal

"Maniscalco has created a serious, sharp-minded, and forward-thinking protagonist in Audrey Rose, whose fearlessness will endear her to readers looking for an engaging historical thriller. Abundant red herrings and a dash of romance round out this gruesome but engrossing story."―Publisher's Weekly

"Audrey Rose Wadsworth prefers breeches to ball gowns, autopsies to afternoon tea, and scalpels to knitting needles. Though her father, Lord Edmund, has forbidden it, Audrey covertly studies forensic medicine...while "the Ripper" remains two steps ahead, lurking where Audrey least expects....Maniscalco's portrayal of scientific invention in a newly industrial era will serve as a fine first foray into Victorian classics."―Booklist

"*A marvelous yet somewhat gruesome mystery...The Ripper scenes are visceral, and the plot dovetails with history perfectly. An unexpected twist makes the ending worth the wait. A must-have."―School Library Journal, starred review

"Audrey is a young woman eager to use her brains and willing to flaunt society's rules....This mystery pays homage to classics like Doyle's Sherlock Holmes and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein [and] will satisfy those readers looking for historical mystery, a witty heroine, and a little romance."―School Library Connection

"This is a book that will keep you up at night and haunt you during the day."―Beth Revis, author of the New York Times bestselling series Across the Universe

"With ample knowledge of Ripper lore, Maniscalco creates a steadfast and headstrong heroine who is as comfortable in gloves of blood as she is in watered silk. Filled with plenty of gory details, and no shortage of possible suspects, Stalking Jack the Ripper conveys the panic, paranoia, and fascination of 1880s London with a madman on the loose."―Kendare Blake, author of Anna Dressed in Blood and Three Dark Crowns

"Kerri Maniscalco paints a picture of nineteenth-century London that lives and breathes in wonderfully sinister fashion. You won't want to put this book down."―Renee Ahdieh, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller The Wrath and the Dawn

"Dark and suspenseful...this book kept me guessing until its final, terrifying scenes."―Anna Carey, author of the EVE trilogy

Guessing Until the End
By Rebecca Forrester
I actually found PhantomRin’s art work for this book before I had ever heard of the book, and it was so gorgeous that I had to see what was so awesome about it that it deserved such gorgeous fan art. Well, I looked it up and the blurb on the back was absolutely tantalizing. How could this girl be the girl that loved the Ripper? Well, this book kept me guessing as to the culprit until the grand finale and it was jaw-dropping!
First, let me tell you of the characters. Our MC is the lovely, intelligent, and ambitious Audrey Rose Wadsworth, lady of London’s high society. She’s sneakily studying with her uncle, Dr. Jonathan Wadsworth the practice of forensic science, dissections and all. This, of course, is not to the liking of her father Edmund or her brother Nathaniel who both think it’s improper for any lady, especially one of her status. Then there’s the clever, Holmesian assistant to Dr. Wadsworth, Thomas Cresswell. He’s a skilled assistant and is clearly interested in Audrey Rose for more than just her intelligence, though she doesn’t care to admit that she reciprocates. These are the main players in this literary game of CLUE, though we know where the body is and what weapon was likely used, it’s the WHO and the WHY that no one can figure out.
As an assistant to her uncle, Audrey Rose is drawn in to the Ripper, or Leather Apron, investigations in a very close-up way. She’s examining these poor, butchered women firsthand and everyone from the police to her family look at her askance, as if she herself is involved in something heinous for breaking society’s rules. Admittedly, her involvement probably wouldn’t have happened in this era, but it sure makes for a story that has such an element of empowerment.

This Book Is SO Good!
By Jessica
Review was originally posted on Goldilox and the Three Weres.

The only things I knew going into this book was that it was receiving good reviews in the book blog community and that the heroine was a Victorian lady who does autopsies on corpses which gets her involved in the Jack the Ripper investigation. I was already inclined to like the book based on the Victorian Lady of Science alone. Then I read the first chapter and I immediately fell in love. Any book that starts out with a grisly autopsy is a book I'll probably adore and it only got better.

I found myself a little in love with Audrey Rose Wadsworth and her intelligence and tenacity. She wants to be more than what her society has planned for her and she is going to do all in her power to insure the future she wants. It gave her a delightfully modern feel while still feeling realistic for the time period. My favorite thing about Audrey was that she is unapologetic about being herself. She embraces that she can do forensic science and still take pride and pleasure in her dress and appearance. I adored that about her. I was immediately pulled into her story and into the investigation from the first. I've always had a weird obsession with Jack the Ripper and I was impressed by how the author used the details of the actual events to push the story forward. This is one of the best written Ripper novels I've ever read.

Audrey Rose is brilliant and a very capable women in a lot of aspects but she has no street smarts. She would frequently sneak out at night when there was a murderer running amok with little thought to the danger. Thankfully, she was joined most of the time by the dashing and logical, Thomas Cresswell. I adored Thomas from the moment he appeared on the page! He kind of reminded me of a more likeable Sherlock Holmes. He's highly intelligent and logical in a way that is more than a little arrogant but he has a sweet and emotional side to him we really never see in Sherlock. He often joins Audrey on her adventures instead of sending her home not because he feels the need to protect her (which he does) but because he doesn't want to miss out on the action and the chance to spend time with her. He's adorable. I totally ship these two together.

Stalking Jack the Ripper was an excellent example of the awesome historical YA fiction on the market today and I can't recommend it enough to everyone who can handle a little bit of blood and gore. I seriously can't wait to see what kind of shenanigans Audrey Rose and Thomas get into in the next book!

New Spin on Jack the Ripper Mystery
By Amazon Customer
“Roses have both petals and thorns, my dark flower. You needn’t believe something weak because it appears delicate. Show the world your bravery.”

Kerri Maniscalco's debut novel is a definite must read for fans of mystery and suspense novels, and is sure to be a hit! I was blown away by how much I enjoyed this one, and I certainly didn't expect to like it as much as I did. Let's face it, there have been a TON on books written about Jack the Ripper, and they can either be really good or just eh. Fortunately, Kerri did an excellent job at weaving the Jack the Ripper mystery into a very unique story that keeps you gripped right from the beginning. Her writing is excellent, and she tells a macabre tale that you never want to stop reading. The characters are a definite highlight and truly make the entire book, and I'm interested to see where she takes the story in the future.

“Wield your assets like a blade, Cousin. No man has invented a corset for our brains. Let them think they rule the world. It’s a queen who sits on that throne. Never forget that.”

Our main character, Audrey, is far from the perfect lady that her father (and society) would like her to be. Interested in forensics and cutting up dead bodies instead of sipping tea and learning embroidery, you could definitely say that Audrey has some trouble fitting in. However, she has found her niche and she's sticking to it! I admired that tenacity and determination she had. Audrey was such a strong female lead and I loved reading from her perspective. Audrey is a girl that is determined to prove society wrong...that girls can do more than just look pretty and find a husband. She wants to show that women can accomplish great things and are capable of much more than discussing the latest gossip and the newest bachelors. She's reckless and impulsive, but that just makes her an even more enjoyable character to read about! It was that personality that attracted a certain British hottie named Thomas Cresswall.

“Thomas smiled at my eye roll, puffing his chest up and standing with one foot proudly resting on a chair as if posing for a portrait. “I don’t blame you, I am rather attractive. The tall, dark hero of your dreams, swooping in to save you with my vast intellect. You should accept my hand at once.”

Thomas seriously had me swooning. Who knows why because he's arrogant, cold, and distant...but he's also hilariously sarcastic, witty, and loyal to the core. He cares a great deal about Audrey, and I loved how protective he was of her throughout the novel. Thomas reminded me a lot of Sherlock Holmes and perhaps that's why I enjoyed his character so much! Plus, the banter he and Audrey had was pure gold! They're always bickering back and forth, getting on each other's nerves...you see where this is going. Honestly, the attraction and chemistry between them is undeniable, and I loved watching their relationship form.

“I promise. I’ll be as silent as the dead.”
“Ah,” Uncle said, putting a hat on and tugging it low, “the dead speak to those who listen. Be quieter than even them.”

The entire backdrop to this story was amazing. I thought that Kerri did an excellent job at weaving the Jack the Ripper story into the plot, and it made for such an exciting read. There were definitely some graphic scenes (this was just due to the descriptions of the murder scenes), but this is Jack the Ripper, so it's was pretty gruesome. I actually applaud Kerri for not shying away from Jack the Ripper's disgusting work. The way she told the story made everything so eerie and I felt as if I was right there next to Audrey and Thomas walking the foggy streets of London trying to solve the murders.

“Fear is a hungry beast. The more you feed it, the more it grows.”

Kerri Maniscalco's debut novel is excellent, and I highly recommend checking this book out as soon as possible. While there are some graphic scenes, I think this book will appeal to many readers. If you're even remotely interested in the Jack the Ripper story, you'll definitely enjoy this read. With strong characters and a plot that is the perfect mix of creepy and cool, Stalking Jack the Ripper is sure to be a hit!

Happy reading :)
